Love in the Time of Cholera
In our newest piece Zoltán Fodor turned the story of Gabriel García Márquez’s novel Love in the Time of Cholera into a dance transcription.
In the basic story of the piece, it dissects the threads of a love triangle, but it says much more than that. Spanning decades, the piece presents love, aging and human life in general through its three protagonists in a multifaceted way, sometimes realistically and sometimes with bizarre surreality.
Now, when the world is changing right in front of our eyes, it is perhaps more relevant to reconsider the novel than at any other time, since it is centered on waiting, patience, human destinies and questions. Do we do everything for what we desire? Do we fight so that our destiny is not controlled by others?
Does our happiness only make sense in the mirror of another person? Can we accept aging and passing away? Are we living our lives the way we really want, or have we given in to the compromise that blinds us with the illusion of happiness?
